Tired Of Nicotine Patches? Scientist Suggests Lettuce
If you are trying to quit smoking, you may have tried nicotine patches or gums. But one scientist is urging smokers to try kicking the habit with lettuce leaves instead. After decades of research, Dr. Puzant Torigian, pharmacist and founder of Safer Smokes Inc., developed Bravo, a smoke made from enzyme-treated lettuce leaves in lieu of tobacco. The idea is to give smokers the experience of smoking a cigarette without the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine. So how harmful is nicotine. The carcinogens found in cigarette smoke are believed to increase the risk of lung cancer, but at least one study has shown that nicotine itself may contribute to the disease. In the study, which was published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation in 2003, Dr. Dennis and colleagues from the Center for Cancer Research found that nicotine may promote the survival of lung cells, thereby allowing the cancer to progress. Meanwhile, Torigian questions the logic of using nicotine, or any addictive substance, as a means of conquering the addiction itself. You can t get rid of an...
Conquering The World And Beyond,g.i. Joe, The Original Real American Hero
Joe s popularity is unquestionable. By his thirtieth birthday he had battled COBRA, helped expel drugs, saved the environment and helped educated children all over the world. He had survived near extinction due to petroleum costs and rallied back to be the greatest selling action hero in history. One might think it was time for this soldier to retreat from the line of battle and become a boot camp instructor, but not G.I. Joe, he still has battles to win. Joe, collectors were everywhere. The action figures were popular not only with kids at the playground, but also with big time collectors who would do anything to get their hands on a 1964 original. In light of the collectors craze, Hasbro introduced the G.I. Joe Classic Collection that was similar to the original toy, but cam with a wide range of authentically detailed military themes and personnel from around the world. These new 12-inch figures include the U.S. These figures also came with original hand painted artwork and narrative stories about the missions, history, and contributions of that particular...
An Enlarged Prostate - A Normal Part Of The Aging Process
The prostate gland goes through two main stages of growth during a man s life. The first sees fairly rapid growth during the early years of puberty with the prostate roughly doubling in size. The second stage of growth starts in a man s mid-twenties and this is a much slower phase of growth which then continues throughout life. For the vast majority of men this second phase of growth does not cause any problems at all until they are well into their sixties or seventies when the symptoms caused by the now enlarged prostate will begin to appear and a visit to the doctor will reveal the presence of nothing more than a simple enlarged prostate. In medical terms, your doctor will say that you are suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia, benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH. The prostate sits just below the bladder and partially surrounds the urethra the tube which carries urine from the bladder. As the prostate gland grows, the tissue surrounding it restricts its expansion and causes the prostate to close around the urethra, thus restricting the flow through the...
Smarten Up People Flush Toxins Away
First of all I want to tell you how fit I am today, then I will tell you how I used to be. I know you are saying to yourself, why I should be Interested how this guy feels. Well my friends there is a darn good reason for this. My name is Ralph Morton, I am 78 years old and I feel like I am 55. I play golf on a regular basis and shoot in the high 80 s. I walk, don t take a cart; I guess the reason is I hit the ball right down the middle, unlike my playing partners whole chase their ball from one side of the fairway to the other. They of course cover a lot of ground. Many times they say, I have had the same ball for a couple of years as I never lose it. They are wrong of course; I have been known to have lost a few. My point is I am a very different person than I was a few years ago. Going back about two and a half years ago, I had resigned myself to getting old, hey, I was 76, my wife and I both didn t realize it, but we had accepted old age. We didn t play golf any longer, I was fat, and had no drive at all. Our whole life had changed in just a few months. We...

How Do They Make Auto Glass Bulletproof?
As you may know bulletproof glass is glass that is capable of stopping all sorts of bullets fired at it. This type of glass is made by using a strong but transparent material such as polycarbonate thermoplastic. Sometimes it s constructed by using layers of laminated glass. The polycarbonate layer is often put between layers of regular glass. A bullet will probably pierce the exterior glass layer, but will be stopped by the really strong polycarbonate layer before it can pierce the inner layer of glass. There s also what s called bullet resistant glass that s constructed of laminated glass layers. This is built from sheets of glass glued together using some sort of liquid rubber. One-way Bullet Proof Glass As technology advances in the field of bullet resistant glass we now have a new type of bullet proof glass called one-way bulletproof glass. These types of glasses are commonly used by armored cars. The beauty of this glass is that it will resist incoming fire arms striking the outside of the glass, while allowing those on the other side of the glass, such as...
Utility Of Mohs Hardness Testing
Evolved by the German mineralogist Friedrich Mohs in 1812, Mohs Hardness Test is one among the earliest ways of measuring hardness and it revolves round the observation whether a materials surface is scratched by a substance of known or defined hardness. This leads us to the concept of Mohs hardness, which is defined as how well a substance will resist scratching by another substance . Mohs hardness gives a rough measure gauging of the resistance of a smooth surface to scratching or abrasion with reference to the Mohs scale. The Mohs scale, composed of some 10 minerals that have been assigned arbitrary hardness values, quantifies the physical property of hardness. The 10 minerals in Mohs scale in decreasing order of the hardness values are, Diamond: 10 Corundum: 9 Topaz: 8 Quartz: 7 Orthoclase Feldspar : 6 Apatite: 5 Fluorite: 4 Calcite: 3 Gypsum: 2 Talc: 1 NOTE: Each mineral in the Mohs scale will scratch those with a lower number. How does Mohs Hardness Testing quantify hardness. Mohs hardness of a mineral is established through close observation of whether...
Joseph Pilates: Father Of The Pilates Movement
They often say that every overnight success is usually five years in the making Well Pilates burst on the scene over the last decade like the new kid on the block who just happened to be over 90 years old. Joseph Pilates invented the ingenious exercise system due to the same reason most things get invented: necessity. Born in Germany in 1880, Joe was an extremely sickly child and in an attempt to improve his overall health and physical well-being he extensively studied Eastern and Western exercise regimens. Needless to say, it was certainly helpful to young Joe that his father was an award-winning gymnast and his mother was a naturopath. Aside from studying the human anatomy in obsessive detail thanks to a book given to young Joe by his family physician , yoga, skiing, diving, gymnastics, and wrestling were among the many disciplines he studied. With such a diverse and eclectic physical education background, it was only natural for Joe to take the best of all the systems and devise his own unique system known as the Pilates Method. Heading to England in 1912...
